The BC Hotel Association (BCHA)  becomes the latest industry supporter of the Restaurant and Pub Green Zone

BC Hotel Association (BCHA) has become the latest industry supporter of the Restaurant and Pub Green Zone as several flagship hotels join the program.  The Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, The Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel, and the Abbotsford Ramada and Conference Centre have become the lastest additions to the program. The Restaurant and Pub Green Zone pays restaurants for qualifying used frying oil which is then turned into biofuels (like biodiesel).

"Fairmont has been a proud industry leader in sustainable hotel management since 1989," says Amy Kantorczyk, Director of Operations, The Fairmont Vancouver Airport. "Partnering with ERM BioSource to recycle our used kitchen oil is an excellent example of how we lessen our environmental footprint without impacting the guest experience."

There are approximately 15 hotel restaurants currently taking part in the program and, with the support of the BC Hotel Association, this number is expected to increase.
The Restaurant and Pub Green Zone was started in The Lower Mainland and has expanded into the Okanagan and Vancouver Island bringing the total number to almost 550 participating restaurants and food service facilities.

“With the growing food crisis being blamed on biofuels, this is a sensible solution by recycling what is already in the food chain” says Mike Perrier President and CEO of Port Coquitlam, B.C. based ERM BioSource.  The Program is managed by ERM BioSource which processes the used waste oil into alternative energy and bio cleaning solutions.

ERM BioSource, is based in Port Coquitlam, BC and is  a participating member of the Recycling Council of British Columbia. ERM BioSource is a processing facility for biofuels servicing the needs of British Columbia.
